Shorin Ryu Kata History

CHOTUKU KYAN, Shorin Ryu - KENTSU YABU, Shorin Ryu

Founding members of "Karate-do" association in 1937

Sakagawa Tode  (1733 – 1815)  
He combined chuan-fa with tode forming Okinawa-te, te, karate (china hand).
He is generally acknowledged as founder of the Okinawan martial arts.


Matsumura Bushi  (1797– 1889)
Naihanchi, Passai, Kusanku


Itosu Anko (1831 - 1915)
Born in Shuri, Okinawa
Pinan
The series of five basic kata called Pinan (later renamed Heian in Japan)
is one of the most widely taught kata today


Kyan Chotoku (1870 - 1945)
Anaku, Wanshu, Seisan, Gojushiho, Chinto
Grand Master Eizo Shimabukuro trained directly with Kyan Chotoku.


Miyagi Chojun (1886 - 1953)
Seiunchin, Sanchin
Grand Master Eizo Shimabukuro trained directly with Miyagi Chojun.


Motobu Choki (1871 - 1944)
Famous for his Naihanchi kata
Grand Master Eizo Shimabukuro trained with M
otobu Choki.


Chibana Choshin (1885 - 1969)
Grand Master Eizo Shimabukuro trained with Chibana Choshin.
He corrected his Pinan kata.
He called his style Kobayashi Ryu "Young Forest" style.
